Mandalyn and the Hunters are a powerhouse blues-rock band, blending raw emotion, soulful vocals, and electrifying musicianship. Fronted by the dynamic Mandalyn, whose commanding voice and heartfelt delivery captivate audiences, the band creates an immersive sound rooted in blues tradition with a modern edge. With gritty guitar, a deep groove, and an unstoppable rhythm section, they bring an unforgettable energy to every performance. Whether on stage or in the studio, Mandalyn and the Hunters deliver music that resonates—timeless, passionate, and undeniably powerful.
Mandalyn has been passionate about singing since she was 5 years old. She began competing in music during her elementary school years and continued training and competing through high school. At 17, she joined the music scene by performing karaoke while her dad’s band took breaks. In 2004, she started her first cover band NAWTY and quickly became a prominent figure in the local music scene in NW Indiana. With years of studio experience and a couple of demos recorded in Tennessee, she shifted her focus to the Blues genre. In 2019, she returned to Nashville to record a Blues EP. Now, This powerhouse soulful vocalist with her band The Hunters, is writing original songs and is ready to make a significant impact in the blues scene.
Wes Rettinger
Wes Rettinger is a seasoned guitarist with over 15 years of professional experience in the music industry. Throughout his career, he has showcased his versatility by playing in a variety of genres, from rock to blues to R&B. Wes made his mark as a member of the rock bands Black Water Levee and Hardknocks, where his electrifying guitar work and stage presence helped define their sound. His musical journey also included playing in the progressive rock band Uncle Bucket, where his intricate playing and creative expression shone through, earning him respect as a skilled and innovative guitarist.
In addition to his work in rock, Wes has explored his passion for blues as a solo artist, performing with the Wes Rettinger Band and honing his craft as both a guitarist and a performer. His commitment to musical diversity is evident in his time with Rhymer Educator, a band blending R&B and Hip-Hop, where he had the unique opportunity to open for major acts like Pitbull and Vanilla Ice. Wes’ ability to adapt to different musical styles and his deep understanding of rhythm and melody have made him a highly sought-after player in various musical circles.
Known for his powerful and soulful slide guitar work, Wes Rettinger has also contributed his talents to the Laporte County Orchestra, further expanding his repertoire. His dedication to his craft, combined with his wide-ranging experience across genres, has solidified his reputation as a guitarist capable of bringing depth and emotion to any musical setting.
Maurice (Moe )Taylor: A Drummer’s Journey Through Blues and Beyond
Maurice (Moe)Taylor is a seasoned drummer from Gary, Indiana, whose rhythmic talents have graced stages and studios with some of the biggest names in the blues and rock worlds. From his early beginnings in Gary to playing alongside legendary musicians, Moe’s career has been defined by his passion for rhythm and his dedication to the blues genre.
Moe’s musical journey includes playing drums for the renowned Ronnie Baker further cementing his place in the blues scene. He had the incredible opportunity to share the stage with blues legend Lonnie Brooks, a moment he cherishes to this day. In addition to live performances, Moe’s studio work stands as a testament to his skill, with notable collaborations that include recording with the iconic Eddy “The Chief” Clearwater and Ronnie Baker Brooks.
Not only has Moe played with some of the most respected figures in blues, but he has also had the privilege of performing alongside celebrated artists like Jellybean Johnson, drummer for Morris Day and The Time, and the legendary B.B. King. These experiences have shaped him into the versatile and seasoned musician he is today.
In addition to his extensive professional history, Moe is currently the drummer for Mandalyn And The Hunters, a band that continues to push musical boundaries. He also played with the Neighborhood Blues Band, showcasing his deep roots in blues music.
Through his experiences, Moe has earned a reputation as one of the most skilled and respected drummers in the genre, his style shaped by years of hard work and collaboration with some of the finest musicians in the world.
Mike started playing bass in high school. He purchased his first bass for $15 at a local shop. From there he played with many bands of different genres of rock, blues and pop which helped him hone his style.
He came back to the blues when he joined The KingSnakes who later teamed up with the late great Byther Smith and played on his Handy Award nominated album “I’m a Mad Man” that was recorded in Memphis and featured the Memphis Horns and Terry Manning of Stax Records fame at the controls.
After leaving the KingSnakes Mike went into hired gun mode where he got to share the stage with many blues greats such as Buddy Guy, Lonnie Brooks, John Primer and many others including the late great Son Seals. He has been blessed to be able to play in countries in Europe and many cities in the US having many great adventures and experiences.
Now anchoring the bottom end for Mandalyn and the Hunters he is excited about the future with this talented band.
Jim Johnson brings a rich musical background to Mandalyn and The Hunters, blending deep blues influences with jazz and funk roots. Growing up in Minneapolis, he was captivated by the city’s vibrant, Prince-inspired scene. He also had the privilege of studying under legendary Brazilian jazz pianist Manfredo Fest, an experience that forever shaped his approach to both improvisation and voicings.
Jim’s diverse musical interests led him to the University of Miami, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Engineering Technology. While there, he performed in several large and small ensembles and wrote and recorded original jazz, pop, funk, and blues compositions.
After college, Jim spent years honing his craft as a pianist and vocalist in jazz trios while also playing bass guitar in various cover bands in Minneapolis and Boston. In 2020, he relocated to the Northwest Indiana/Chicago area and quickly found a home in the local music scene, performing with bands like PRX and the Geddy Trezak Band.
In 2023, Jim attended the Griffith Blues Fest and was absolutely blown away by the energy, talent, synergy and musicianship of (the then quartet) Mandalyn and The Hunters. He reached out to Mandalyn, hoping for the chance to contribute to their sound. To his excitement, he soon became a part of the band, bringing his passion for blues, jazz, and soul to an already electrifying group of musicians.
